Ehixibition NATO Base Geilenkirchen, Germany, 2012

On 16 and 17 June 2012, Paola Cenci held a solo exhibition at the NATO Base in Geilenkirchen, Germany, a place with deep personal roots in her life story.

Paola had lived in Geilenkirchen from 1999 to 2002, and returning to exhibit there was a profoundly meaningful experience — a reunion with a community and a place that had shaped her as both a person and an artist. It was during those years in Germany that her artistic vision began to evolve, drawing inspiration from the cultural diversity and international atmosphere of life on a NATO base.

The exhibition showcased a selection of her original paintings to an audience of military personnel, international staff and their families people who, like Paola, had chosen a life defined by mobility, cultural exchange and openness to the world.

Bringing her art back to Geilenkirchen was a way of closing a circle of offering something personal and creative to the community that had once been her home.
